I recently visited South Padre Island, Texas to do a little repair on our vacation rental there. John Boy Murphy went along to help out. We drove to the north side of town to look at the massive sand dunes. In the animated gif shown here, Murph takes flight.

I love you cotton. I hate you polyester.

These feelings sum up the key takeaway from my early morning closet cleaning spree. In doing some mid-winter clothes-clearing … you know the drill where you keep, give away, donate, or toss … I made a solemn vow to just say no to polyester. I feel better already.

Somewhere in the past five years, I fell victim to the evil marketing genius of golf and other apparel companies. I bought in to the promise of performance-enhancing, sweat-wicking fabric like so many others. Well, you know what? I think I sweated even more with this shiny, plasticky stuff draped over me. And it’s not all that comfortable either. So now various Nike, Under Armour and Slazenger shirts are now neatly piled and ready for Goodwill. Good riddance!

I have committed to cotton. To me, this natural fabric just feels better. I think I always knew this, but just needed a little housekeeping reminder.
